This collection of short stories was published in 2001, although its stories were published in cultural magazines during the 1930s and 1940s. The collection includes nine stories that contain many paradoxes that succeed in astonishing the reader the more he examines their events. In the story "April First," the hero faces a financial crisis, and his aunt refuses to help him, thinking that he wishes her to die so that he can inherit her wealth. He agrees with a nurse to delay the dates of the medication that his aunt is taking in order to hasten her death, in exchange for a reward that he will give her after he inherits the wealth. We also meet in the story "The Price of a Wife" the husband who learns of his wife's infidelity, so he asks her lover for the price of intercourse with her, and the lover gives him a riyal, so he pushes his wife to commit suicide after he sarcastically asks her to tell her family the story of this riyal.
