This book will help you to understand what’s expected of a passenger-carrying vehicle (PCV) driver, it will help you prepare for your practical PCV driving test, and prepare for and maintain your Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) qualification. The information in this book should be read in conjunction with the general driving advice given in ‘The Official Highway Code’ and ‘The Official DVSA Guide to Driving - the essential skills’, which provide valuable information on driving skills in general. You’ll need this information in addition to the specific skills regarding driving PCVs detailed in section 4 of this book. Reading this book should help you to appreciate the principles of driving PCVs and so lead you to become a safer driver. However, this book is only a guide; it shouldn’t be taken as a training manual. It’s just one of the factors in your training. The others are; having a good instructor, getting plenty of practice, and having the right attitude. Once you’ve obtained your PCV licence you should take pride in your driving. Your professionalism will be seen and appreciated by other road users. Driving is a life skill.
