Israel is now synonymous with the modern Jewish state founded in 1948. But it was almost named New Judea. The New Testament says Jesus ministered in Judea. When the Patriarch Israel placed his hands upon Joseph''s sons Ephraim & Manasseh, he said "Let my name be named upon them." When God rent the Kingdom from Solomon''s son and gave the ten tribes to Jeroboam of Ephraim, the new northern kingdom was called Israel. The southern Kingdom was called Judea. Israel was later carried away by Assyria and scattered throughout the Gentile nations. The prophets spoke of a day when God would gather them out from every nation throughout the world and bring them unto their own inheritance. They speak of this event as being a great and marvelous work which will stun rulers and wise men. The whole House of Israel is about to be restored and the world will see it.
